The automotive supplier Newalu (formerly Belte AG) was able to secure new orders worth millions from the automotive industry. This includes a new customer from the Far East, a car manufacturer from Vietnam, and the first order in the field of electromobility. Series production at the Delbrück site is to start in 2019 and 2020. Newalu plans to invest in new machinery and equipment and to hire additional personnel. The company currently employs 70 people in Delbrück.

Electric Cars with High Share of Aluminum Components

The topic of electromobility has already been on the table at Newalu for some time in the form of OEM enquiries. Analyses and prototypes have shown that an electric motor with integrated control and cooling has approximately the same volume and mass of aluminum as a modern engine block. "Battery pans or battery containers are particularly exciting, because their strength and formability requirements are in no way below those of structural body parts," says Martin Volpers, Managing Director of Operations at Newalu.

According to Newalu, the consumption of an electric vehicle increases by up to one kilowatt hour per 100 kilometers per 100 kilograms of extra weight. This is why lightweight design with aluminum is an important objective in the automotive industry. The supplier wants the heat treatment to have a positive effect on the mechanical properties of the material. In the event of an accident, for example, this could result in the component to deform and not to break.
