In the past, it has already become clear that the light metal foundry industry had to overcome numerous challenges before - but especially during the corona crisis. For example, the temporary closure of foundries at the beginning of the year led to interrupted supply chains - a problem that in some cases still exists today. VDMA Chief Economist Dr. Ralph Wiechers reported in mid-April that "the supply chains are also still under strong pressure". In addition, the mechanical engineering industry was particularly hard hit by order losses or cancellations. Furthermore, it became known in mid-March that the German aluminum industry was expecting a drop in production. Consequently, short-time working is also a topic that became increasingly relevant at the end of March / beginning of April: According to a survey by the BDG, 86% of the German companies surveyed are already in short-time work or plan to do so in the immediate future.
