Price development of magnesium: The global demand for magnesium is expected to reach a CAGR of only 3.4 % to 1.2 million tons by 2020. The trend towards lightweight construction in the automotive and aerospace industries, including die casting, as well as the use of aluminium alloys are the main drivers. The average growth rate for the die casting segment and aluminium alloys is 4 %. China currently accounts for around 80 to 85 % of global production capacity and probably also for production. China's production capacity exceeds demand considerably. Some of the smaller suppliers are likely to withdraw from the market in the medium-term. The experts therefore do not see any further growth potential for the magnesium price until the end of the first quarter of 2018 and expect it to rise by $ 2,200 per ton with a margin of $ 300 per ton.
