Robotics KR Quantec Robot - New Special Variant
Hot and dirty is his favorite: Kuka presents a new special version of the KR Quantec robot. A total of 14 new foundry variants of the KR Quantec industrial robot series are available for use under extreme conditions.
Last year, the automation specialist completely revised the standard version of its best-selling robot and brought it up to the latest technical standard. Kuka is now presenting the second generation of this special version for the foundry, forging and machining industries - more digitalized, flexible, powerful and economical. The 14 different robot types are particularly suitable for extreme environments. This means that the KR Quantec Foundry series can be used in adverse conditions such as wet, dirty and dusty environments, or at high temperatures.
Extended Range of Services
Kuka has significantly expanded the performance spectrum of the robot series. All 14 foundry versions are equipped with IP67 protection as standard - on the complete machine. They can easily withstand ambient temperatures of up to 55° C. The gripper hand of the robot can even withstand a maximum temperature of 180° C for ten seconds per minute, which is an enormous advantage when gripping in the furnace, for example. "This means that our robot offers customers in the foundry, forging and machining industries greater flexibility in application - also thanks to the possibility of payload upgrades in the field. It also offers outstanding values in terms of total cost of ownership (TCO)", says Wolfgang Bildl, the responsible product manager at Kuka.
Motion Modes for Ideal Process Quality
The new digital motion modes, which have been available as software add-ons for the new generation of the KR Quantec series since 2019, also ensure higher process quality in the foundry versions. For example, the "Path Mode" increases precision during path travel, while the "Dynamic Mode" reduces cycle times by enabling higher speed. Higher performance and a longer service life also reduce operating costs. This is ensured, for example, by the improved gearbox seals and corrosion-protected small parts, while a new gear oil reduces maintenance requirements and extends the service life of the new foundry robots. "This makes the KR Quantec Foundry a sustainable investment in the future of production, especially for harsh environments such as those found in the foundry, forging and machining industries," says Wolfgang Bildl.
