The economical lightweight door for commercial vehicles, which was developed as part of a research project sponsored by the BMWi, is distinguished by a forward-looking cabin design that offers aerodynamic advantages and a 20% cost-neutral weight saving through innovative forming and joining technology. With the steel-intensive lightweight construction, the Edag Group, together with its project partners fischer Hydroforming GmbH and Muhr Metalltechnik GmbH & Co. KG, the Edag Group was able to implement a cost-effective construction method with the best functional added value. The door has a hydroformed frame profile, which allows a very low concealment of the viewing angle. Pedestrians can thus be seen better and accidents avoided. A further feature is the frame-under-glass concept for optimized aerodynamics. The truck door combines economical lightweight construction with advanced aerodynamics and safety.

The Edag Group operates CompenceCenters for pioneering future technologies in the mobility sector: lightweight construction, electromobility, digitalization, integral security, cyber security and new production technologies. With the innovation project "Lightweight Door for Commercial Vehicles - WiLeitNu", which has been developed in the Edag CompenceCenter "Lightweight construction, technologies and materials in close collaboration with Edag's commercial vehicle cabin experts, the company is underlining its claim to be proactive in developing and driving forward innovative technologies. It is now the declared aim of Edag and its partners, in bilateral cooperation with commercial vehicle manufacturers and suppliers, to take the joint concept to the pre-development and series production stages.
