Electromobility Expansion of Battery Testing Center
To meet the increased requirements imposed on development tools, FEV is going to expand its battery testing center near Paris. The 600-square-meter site is scheduled to go into operation as early as 2018.
The development service provider FEV is expanding its test center for batteries, which is scheduled to go into operation in 2018. The approximately 600-square-meter site comprises four walk-in test cells for large traction batteries and four test cells for battery packs with a voltage supply of up to 1,200 volts. Up to 300 channels will also be available for testing battery cells and battery modules. According to the company, all test cells are equipped with an air-conditioning system.
Focus on Future Drive Technologies
In addition to the battery test cells, the test center will feature extensive real-time simulation tools. In this way, batteries can be tested in their individual application scenarios by simulating the road, vehicle and powertrain.
“However, we are planning further, complementary steps: In addition to our test center near Paris, we will consistently push ahead with the capacity expansion at our site in China," says Professor Stefan Pischinger, President and CEO of the FEV Group. This worldwide expansion will include test benches for electric drives.
The expansion of the battery test center is a step in a series of activities that FEV has reportedly undertaken to strengthen the business unit Electronics and Electrification: In September 2017, FEV already acquired EVA Fahrzeugtechnik, a specialist in e-mobility and high-voltage storage development. With more than 220 employees, EVA develops high-performance, high-voltage accumulators that would meet the requirements in terms of energy storage, range, durability, temperature resistance, weight and costs.

FEV's expertise includes consulting, development and testing of vehicle concepts up to series production readiness.
