EUROGUSS 2020 Product News No Adhesion With Fluoropolymer Coatings
Editor: Nicole Kareta
Special fluoropolymers create hydrophobic surfaces with low surface tension and thus effectively prevent the adhesion of many substances. This effect is enhanced by modification of the surface structure with defined roughness profiles by reducing the contact area. One solution is the surface treatment TempCoat.
Many manufacturing processes with metal surfaces in contact with the product could only be solved unsatisfactorily even with highly refined metal surfaces.
The efficient and trouble-free processing and transport of metals, plastics, paper and also food in various production processes is no longer conceivable without excellent sliding properties of surfaces in contact with the product. Due to their low coefficients of static and sliding friction, fluorinated polymers are necessary as coating materials for such applications. The typical small difference between the two values offers the great advantage of reducing the stick-slip effect in alternating movements.
The fluoropolymer coatings TempCoat offer non-stick properties, sliding properties or high chemical resistance. Combinations of different properties are also possible. Both the use of special additives such as graphite or molybdenum disulphide and the multi-layer structure including reinforcing layers make it possible to adapt the layers specifically to the desired application. For example, demolding processes are improved by multi-layer wear-resistant anti-adhesive systems, or sliding applications are protected from failure by the excellent dry lubrication properties.
The following base materials can be coated:
Aluminum
Stainless steel
Glass
Cast Iron
Ceramics
Plastics
Copper (limited)
Steel
