The solution starts exactly where existing automation systems reach their limits due to the maximum workpiece weight alone, the company said. The Robocell one was specially developed for flexible batch size production with high part variance. A special feature of the robotic cell in this context is an optional automated gripper changing system for flexible workpiece handling and simple implementation of new parts even during ongoing production. The robot can be equipped with single, double or special grippers, whereby up to six different grippers can be used for production-specific workpiece handling.

Thus, a single robot movable on a linear axis is able to flexibly supply two machines with workpieces. In addition, it is possible to manufacture different products in parallel on both machines. For this purpose, the robot automatically changes its grippers for loading and unloading the respective system. The result: optimum machine utilization even with frequently changing orders.

Intelligent Planning, Control and Monitoring

The Robocell one provides advantages for manufacturing practice, particularly through its combination with Fastems' Manufacturing Management Software (MMS) for controlling the robotic cell and the machines connected to it. According to the production orders, the MMS automatically plans the entire production with changing workpieces in different batch sizes, taking into account all the resources required for this. The software also displays the status of the current production in real time (order progress, schedule, etc.), calculates the machine capacities for pending orders and shows necessary machine conversions to the operator in advance. This not only reduces the manufacturing costs per workpiece, but also shortens throughput times thanks to the foresighted detailed planning of the MMS.

Configuration Parallel to Machining Time without Robot Specialists

If the robotic cell is converted to a new workpiece for the first time, almost no robot knowledge is required. This is a great relief especially when part families are processed. Instead of teaching the robot in a time-consuming way, it is configured by parametric programming via MMS. Via the intuitive MMS user interface, the necessary values and parameters for workpiece handling are stored in the control system. This means that new parts master data and orders can be created quickly and easily during running production.

Robocell one also achieves an additional plus in versatile productivity through the option of integrating further processes, e.g. by integrating a measuring machine or a marking system into the automation system.
