Business Expansion STIHL Magnesium Die Casting Expands Production and Creates New Jobs
Editor: Nicole Kareta
STIHL Magnesium Die Casting in Weinsheim, Germany, is expanding its manufacturing capacity for e-bike components in response to the steadily increasing market growth in the e-bike segment. With an investment volume of around EUR16 million, the installation of new production facilities in the form of machinery and associated infrastructure in the existing factory buildings is planned.
STIHL Magnesium Die Casting produces housing parts for e-bike drives in lightweight design and supplies, among others, the German market leader for e-bike drives. As an increased order volume is expected in the next few years, STIHL is gearing up to double its production volume by 2023 with the expansion. This year, half of the investment sum will already be invested. Through the expansion, STIHL Magnesium Die Casting will create up to 70 new jobs in the region in the medium term.
One of the Largest Magnesium Die Casting Plants in Europe
Founded in 1971, STIHL Magnesium Die Casting celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and is now one of the largest and most modern magnesium die casting plants in Europe. The plant is an important part of the global STIHL manufacturing network. With currently around 800 employees, high-quality magnesium components are manufactured in Weinsheim - not only for chainsaws and power tools, but also for the automotive, motorcycle, bicycle and electrical industries, as well as for medical technology. Around 30 % of sales are accounted for by external customers, so-called customer castings. The plant has grown continuously in recent years and was expanded with new production logistics in July 2020.
