Logistics Awards Suppliers Awarded at the ZF Global Supplier Summit
Digitization was at the focus of the ZF Global Supplier Summit. At this occasion, the ZF Suppliers Awards were presented to companies from Europe, Asia and North America.
ZF's top management provided insights into the company’s strategy, new technologies, and the resulting new requirements in the field of purchasing and logistics to 115 strategic suppliers from all over the world. Here, too, the focus was on digitalization.
Smart Logistics in a Model Factory
The guests got an impression of the Group's solutions and development pipeline: from automated drones for factory logistics - for which ZF was the first company in Germany to receive official approval for flights on a factory site – through to the Supplyon supplier portal, and to solutions for smart logistics, which the Group has been testing and developing in the ZF model factory since mid-2017.
The Supplier Award in the "Digitalization" category went to the Silicon Valley. Excelfore combines the expertise of 75 software engineers with the spirit of a start-up. The result is middleware solutions that is to enable the next generation of networked automobiles. The plastics specialist Oechsler, which supplies ZF worldwide with actuators for electronic parking brakes, has invested significantly in 3D printing technology in recent years and received the "Innovation" award.
It All Depends on the Material ...
Three suppliers received an award in the "Production Material" category. Iron Force Industrial not only has the expertise to meet ZF's needs for steel and special pipes, it also has the expertise to supply the entire range of steel products the company needs. The Asian company also impresses with the flexibility and speed of its responds to customer needs.
Voit Automotive GmbH, based in St. Ingbert, specializes in aluminum die casting and other forming technologies and is a strong ZF supplier of internal transmission parts. Voit has been supplying ZF with the successful ZF 8-speed automatic transmission since 1995. The company was also honored as a strategic partner for the successful management and its tireless efforts to improve the cost advantage of the joint venture. Since January 2017, ZF and Voit have jointly operated the French Fonderie Lorraine, in which Voit Automotive holds a majority stake and maintains a technology leadership.
Shell Deutschland Schmierstoff GmbH, the winner in the "Production Material" category, is the main supplier of transmission oil to the ZF Group. This year, the long-standing partnership was characterized by competitive prices, cooperation in logistics, and close cooperation in the development of the lubricants for the fourth generation of 8HP automatic transmissions.
... But Not Only
The awards in the "non-production material" category went to Tübingen and Atlanta. Paul Horn GmbH is ZF's proven partner for cutting machines and tool retrofitting. The company has recently demonstrated its innovative strength and reliability in optimizing life cycles, reconditioning tools, and developing new concepts.
JAS Worldwide was the Group's largest ocean freight forwarder in 2018, and is also an important logistics service provider in the air. From the jury's point of view, the proactive customer orientation and excellent key account management are outstanding. JAS also sets industry-wide standards in IT, especially with regard to the transparency of the supply chain.
