Tesla's filings for Gigafactory Berlin offer space for new speculations about the car manufacturer and its production lines. A report in the online magazine Teslarati, for example, suggests that the eight huge casting machines which will be on site at Gigafactory are to be used to introduce new vehicles made of single-piece castings.
Tesla advertises that it will soon produce a body "from a single piece". Heinrich Timm, a member of the Board of Management of Composites United e.V. and long-standing head of the Audi Lightweight Design Center, gives the announcement classification in an interview with the trade magazine Automobil Industrie.
According to the Tesla blog Tesmanian, Tesla worked on several significant manufacturing improvements for the Model Y production program. The result is a new casting machine that will produce most of the Model Y frame in one single casting.
Apparently Tesla has developed a new aluminium alloy for die casting of car parts, which besides a high yield strength can also maintain a high conductivity - this is supported by a new patent application submitted by the car manufacturer.
